Spiral Dynamics is a fascinating framework that explores how human values and worldviews evolve. Each level represents a different way of thinking, being, and interacting with the world - and that includes how we manage our time.
Let’s imagine how a typical week might unfold for someone operating predominantly from each stage. Instead of the usual color codes, we’ll use emoji circles to represent each level. (In ascending order of complexity.)
🟤 Survival-Oriented (Beige)

Theme: Basic needs and instinctual living
Monday to Sunday: There's no real 'schedule.' Time is measured by needs: hunger, warmth, safety. The day revolves around securing food, shelter, and rest.
Example: Wake up when the sun rises, forage or find food, find shelter before nightfall. Repeat daily.
🔴 Power-Focused (Red)

Theme: Power, strength, and asserting dominance
Week Overview: No fixed schedule - decisions are impulsive. The week is about winning, asserting control, and showing strength.
Monday: Make a bold move at work or in social settings. Dominate meetings or situations.
Midweek: Rest, recharge, maybe indulge. Reward yourself.
Weekend: Party hard, show off, challenge someone - prove superiority.
🔵 Order-Based (Blue)

Theme: Structure, rules, duty
Monday to Friday: 9-5 job, daily routines, strict discipline. Mornings begin early, with prayer or meditation. Tasks follow a clear checklist.
Evenings: Family dinners, reflection, maybe community service.
Weekend: Rest on Sunday, perhaps attend religious or moral gatherings. Saturday for chores.
🟠 Achievement-Oriented (Orange)

Theme: Success, strategy, goals
Week Overview: Hyper-scheduled, Google Calendar full.
Monday - Friday: Gym at 6 AM, work meetings, performance reviews, networking events.
Evenings: Productivity podcasts, skill-building, maybe a side hustle.
Weekend: 'Relaxation' with purpose-reading self-help, optimiSing health, checking off goals.
🟢 Community-Focused (Green)

Theme: Relationships, empathy, inclusion
Week Overview: Balance is key. Prioritise emotional well-being and connection.
Monday: Check in with team, ensure everyone feels heard.
Midweek: Group activities - book clubs, yoga, support circles.
Weekend: Volunteering, community gardening, deep conversations with friends.
🟡 Integrative (Yellow)

Theme: Systems thinking, flexibility, self-awareness
Week Overview: No rigid structure, but purposeful flow. Uses time wisely without being trapped by the clock.
Monday: Reflect on big-picture goals. Only take meetings that matter.
Midweek: Dive deep into creative or intellectual pursuits, shift gears when needed.
Weekend: Could be a Tuesday or Thursday - it’s about energy, not the calendar.
🌐 Holistic (Turquoise)

Theme: Unity, global consciousness, spiritual integration
Week Overview: Time is sacred. Days are guided by intuition, collective needs, and planetary rhythms.
Daily Rhythm: Meditation, deep listening, intentional action, and a sense of purpose beyond the self.
Weekends: Not separate from weekdays - life is one integrated journey. May include ceremony, art, or collective healing practices.
Final Thoughts
Each level has its own wisdom. Whether you're hustling 🟠, building community 🟢, or flowing with cosmic rhythms 🌐, there’s no 'right' schedule - just different lenses on how we live.
Understanding where you (or your team, family, or culture) operate can unlock compassion, adaptability, and maybe even a more satisfying calendar.

Commute is 55 minutes on the train each way so I print a stack of hard sudoku puzzles on Sunday nights and knock one out per ride.
The evil difficulty is actually evil, one took me three days to finish, which has not happened since my old Puzzle Baron subscription lapsed.
